Sid And Nancy: Love Kills
"In the late 70's, when I was living in Los Angeles, there was a strange double murder/suicide in New York. Sid Vicious, a pop singer, was arrested for the murder of his fiancée, Nancy Spungen. He committed suicide before he could be brought to trial. They were both junkies and their lives were pretty bleak. But why take things to such extremes? I don't know. Never mind the bollocks. Watch the film."
-Alex Cox (Director of Sid and Nancy)
I was delighted to find that the library owns the soundtrack to the 1986 cult classic Sid and Nancy. An alluring and tragic look at the initial meeting, relationship and ultimate deaths of Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious and his other half Nancy Spungen.
Read on for track listing,
The film is directed by Alex Cox who is famous for his other cult hit 1984's Repo Man. Gary Oldman plays Sid Vicious and Chloe Webb is Nancy Spungen. Oldman performs his own songs in the film and which are included on the soundtrack.
The soundtrack is a fine, hand picked collection of strong contributors to the 1980's punk/new wave scene.
Leading is Joe Strummer of The Clash with the
"Love Kills" title track.
-"Haunted" by The Pogues
-"Pleasure And Pain" by Steve Jones"
-"Chinese Choppers" by Pray For Rain
-"Love Kills" by Circle Jerks
-"Off The Boat" by Pray For Rain
-"Dum Dum Club" by Joe Strummer
-"Burning Room" by Pray For Rain
-"She Never Took No For An Answer" by John Cale
-"Junk" The Pogues
-"I wanna be your dog" by Gary Oldman

Some interesting facts about the film:
-Gary Oldman was given Sid's actual chain necklace to wear in the film.
- A young Courtney Love appears in the film and originally auditioned for the role of Nancy.
- The members of Guns N Roses were hired to play extras in club scenes.
- In one early scene, there is a glimpse of a band playing in a club that is obviously Siouxsie And The Banshees.
- In a 2008 episode of The Simpsons, The film is parodied. Lisa and Nelson are Sid and Nancy. Bart plays Johnny Rotten. Jimbo and Dolph play Steve Jones and Paul Cook. They perform as The Sex Pistols at CBGB (Comic Book Guy's Bar). The young couple tragically become addicted to chocolate and soon deteriorate.
Click here to reserve the Sid And Nancy soundtrack. Unfortunately, the library does not own the film yet.
Thank you for reading and enjoy.
