If you've never heard the upbeat, choral, layered sounds of The Polyphonic Spree, you're in for a treat if you check out their show, coming up soon on March 30th at the Rialto! Read on to learn more about this fun band...
Well, not so much a band as a kind of pop collective choir, the group (with a rotating, many-member lineup) takes the stage in matching robes and plays a variety of instruments. The result is pure pop sugar, with enough symphonic depth that it's not a guilty pleasure. You might have heard one of their more famous tracks, "Light and Day / Reach For the Sun" in the trailer for The Lorax. You can also check out some of their tunes by playing a free, silly and completely weird online game: just search for "The Quest for the Rest."
Want to check some of their music out from the library? We don't currently own any of their CDs, but if you hop on over to Freegal, you can download a nice sampler of tracks, including a bunch from their excellent Austin City Limits appearance. This is a free service the library subscribes to -- anyone with a library card gets to download 3 tracks per week.
Are you excited for any other upcoming shows? Feel free to leave a comment!
